Charles Bovard was born circa 1710 at Londonderry, Donegal, Ireland.1 He married Margaret Russell at Ireland.2 Charles Bovard died at Ireland.
Tradition identifies the first recorded progenitor of the Bovard line as a Huguenot Frenchman who came to Ireland about 1572. Jacques and Marie and son Jacques, 19, landed in England after fleeing France and then moved north to Scotland and eventually to County Donegal. The young son had been well educated in France. He married Margaret MacLean in 1575. It is unclear whether they married in Scotland or Ireland, but by the time their son, James was born in 1576, the family was in Ireland. The generations between this James and our Charles who was born about 1710 in Ireland are yet to be discovered.
Charles and Margaret may well have had more children. These three are all that are known to have come to America.3,4

Charles Bovard died on 21 August 1852 at Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.4 He was buried on 23 August 1852 at Congruity Cemetery, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2 The National Huguenot Society has a website with information from two different Bovard Bibles. Unfortunately, the original owners of these bibles are not identified. However one begins with the marriage of Charles Bovard & Mary Crawford and lists information for their children, so I feel safe in assuming this was their bible, that probably was handed down to one of the children who continued to add death dates. The second Bovard bible starts with the birth dates for W. C. Bovard, Charles and Mary's son William C. So it appears to be of his family, including some grandchildren.5
